Last Wednesday McKinna had the NED’s Mindset Mission assembly. Students Learned about:
- The Power of Yet – If you’re not good at something, it just means you’re not good at it yet
- How to spark courage in others
- How to keep learning and growing, even when they think they already know something
The presenter used storytelling, puppetry, illusions and yoyo tricks to take our students on an entertaining journey with their character NED. He follows clues, meets memorable characters and learns valuable lessons. First, a yeti teaches NED to overcome Mt. Everest’s toughest obstacles and Never Give Up. With Captain Kindly, NED discovers inner treasures on a Caribbean island and how to Encourage Others. Finally, while repairing a sputtering spaceship, NED grows his brain while learning the message Do Your Best.
Our students were very engaged and enjoyed the presentation!
On Wednesday, February 7th, 82 fourth graders participated in the fourth annual Global School Play Day, which is a day of unstructured play. Students were able to choose their activities, and were not allowed to use any electronic devices. Research shows the importance of play in children's physical and mental health. It helps to boost language development, problem solving, risk management and independent learning skills. It also helps focus and academic success. Children used turn-taking skills to play board games, showed their creativity by painting and drawing, and used design skills to build structures and patterns using linker cubes and pattern blocks. At the end of the day, the students chose to throw frisbees. Who knew play could be so much fun!
