    Dear Marshall Families,

On Friday March 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., there will be one more opportunity for students to pick up distance learning packets.  These will be the same packets that were already handed out on Monday, March 23, and are posted on the Oxnard School District website under, Distance Learning Resources for Students:

    https://sites.google.com/oxnardsd.org/osd-distance-learning/home

Packets will be available outside the front office.  For the safety of everyone, please remember to practice social distancing, staying 6 feet apart from other people, as you wait to collect the packets.  If you are sick with a cough or fever, we ask that you please send someone else to pick up the packets.

The Marshall office will continue to be closed until further notice, so it is important that if you have not downloaded or received a packet, that you come from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. this Friday. If you need to contact a staff member, please call (805) 385-1557 and leave a voicemail message and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Also, beginning Monday March 30, food Grab N Go will be Mondays only, for five-day meals, hosted at Fremont, Harrington, Chavez & Driffill.

I wish you all to stay safe with your families during this time.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Sarah Lepe

    March 13 - COVID-19 School Closure

    Dear OSD Staff,

Like you, we are all concerned about the spread of the novel coronavirus and the uncertainty it’s creating in our daily lives. Yesterday, the Ventura County Public Health department declared a local health emergency, which will provide additional resources for coronavirus response. As a result of this declaration and in the interest of the health of our community, the Oxnard School District and the rest of the schools districts in the Ventura County, have decided to close all of our schools beginning Monday, March 16. OSD schools will be closed through Friday, March 20. We hope to reopen on Monday, March 23, but that decision will depend on the circumstances at the time. We will update families about our plans no later than Friday, March 20.

This closure is in support of the recommendations from public health officials to encourage “social distancing” to slow the spread of the virus. It is strongly recommended that students stay home during the closure as much as possible and do not gather in public places.

We are aware that this closure will result in a loss of time spent learning in the classroom. We have carefully considered options for providing education remotely during the closure, but have determined that it is not feasible at this point. One of the primary responsibilities of public schools is to provide equal opportunity for all students, and not everyone has home internet access and the necessary devices for online learning. We are currently exploring other options for at-home enrichment activities.

School administrators, Office Managerial Staff, Office Assistants, ALL Central Office staff, School Psychologists, Counselors, Speech Language Pathologists, ORCs, Facilities Office staff, Transportation staff, Maintenance staff, Custodial staff, Grounds staff, Warehouse staff,  IT staff (school and centralized) , CNS workers and office staff,  Health Technicians, will report to work next week. Teachers will be provided with guidance regarding the work they are expected to complete while the school closure is in place.  We will provide additional guidance related to the enacting of “social distance”.  Please await further instructions and guidance from the different department heads.

We want to thank you for your understanding and for your professionalism as we adjust to these new developments related to the COVID-19.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Karling Aguilera-Fort

    Superintendent of Schools

Dear OSD Parents, Teachers, and Staff:

While we understand the anxiety that Coronavirus (COVID-19) has caused in our schools and community, we assure you that we are following all directives and protocols from public health officials to protect our schools and students, teachers, and staff. We are in close communication with the Ventura County Office of Education and Ventura County Public Health professionals to assess potential contact and exposure risk for students, teachers, and staff in the Oxnard School District (both rumor and substantiated). Any official communication will be shared on our website and on our approved social media platforms.

At this time, there are no recommendations from public health officials for cancellation of school, public events, or field trips. With this guidance, school and all school activities will continue as scheduled. However, we continue to explore possible solutions for distance learning by assessing our technology access and devices and looking at contingency plans. In the event that Ventura County Public Health asks for social distancing or school closures in the near future, we will be forced to make alternative plans and/or cancel events and possibly school.

Now is the time to begin thinking about your personal contingency plans for childcare and transportation should there be a potential impact to the schools or school events in the future. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) provides resources for household action plans on their website.

      Health and Safety Reminders

    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
    • Stay home when you are sick. If your child is sick, please keep them home from school. All children and staff members with fever (>100.4 F / >38C) should remain home from school and other activities until they had no fever for 24 hours, without fever medication. Students who attend school with coughs and fever will be sent home.
    • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
    • Look out for friends and loved ones who would be considered more vulnerable and offer support. Individuals with chronic health issues and/or individuals experiencing severe symptoms should be evaluated by a medical professional.
    • The California Department of Public Health does not recommend the use of face masks for general prevention and states handwashing provides better protection from infectious diseases.

As always, the safety and wellness of our students and staff are a priority. We will be monitoring new developments and will continue to reevaluate our steps and actions. Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us to maintain a healthy and safe learning environment.

For general questions about Coronavirus and precautions currently recommended by Ventura County Public Health, residents may call the county’s coronavirus information line at (805) 9815101 or (805) 981-5201.

Estaremos monitoreando toda nueva información y continuaremos reevaluando nuestra medidas y acciones.
