    Oxnard School District requires teachers to administer assessments according to the District Assessment Calendar in order to monitor student progress and inform instruction. 

    State Required Assessments administered in the spring:

    • Smarter Balanced Assessment Summative Consortium (summative SBAC) is a computer-based assessment administered to students in grades three through eight and grade eleven in both English Language Arts/literacy and mathematics.
    • California Science Test (CAST) is a computer-based science assessment administered to students in grades five, eight, and once in high school.
    • California Alternate Assessments (CAA) are alternate assessments administered to eligible students with the most cognitive disabilities and whose IEP has designated the use of an alternate assessment. The CAA for English language arts & math is administered to students in grades three through eight and grade eleven in the spring. The CAA for science is administered to those in grades five, eight and once in high school at any time during the academic school year. 
    • Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is a comprehensive health related fitness test administered to students in grades five, seven and nine over multiple days.
    • English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) is a required assessment administered for English language proficiency to students whose primary language is a language other than English. It consists of two separate assessments: one for initial identification of students as English learners and a second for the annual summative assessment to measure student progress in learning English and to identify the level of English language proficiency. 

    District Required Assessments administered year round:

    • Smarter Balanced Interim Assessment Blocks - The Interim assessment blocks (IABs) are computer-based tests administered to students in grades three through eight, year round. Unlike the Summative SBAC, the IABs have a fixed number of items and focus on smaller sets of targets in English Language Arts/literacy and math to provide more detailed information for instructional purposes. The purpose of the IABs is to provide teachers and administrators with results to support teaching and learning. In addition, the IABs provide meaningful information for gauging student progress towards mastery of the skills measured by the Summative SBAC. 
    • STAR 360 Early Literacy, Reading in English/Spanish, and Math:
      • Star 360 Early Literacy is a computer-based test for students in kindergarten through first grade. The assessment helps educators monitor student progress of foundational reading skills. 
      • Star 360 Reading is a computer-based test administered to students in grades two through eight. Educators are able to identify which students require some form of intervention and which students are high performing in basic reading skills. 
      • Star 360 Reading Spanish is a computer-based test administered to students in grades two through eight, participating in the Dual Language Immersion Program. The assessment monitors student progress in Spanish reading skills.
      • Star 360 Math is a computer-based test administered to students in grades one through eight. Educators are able to identify which students require some form of intervention and which students are high performing in mathematics. 
    • Writing Assessment- A writing sample is required from each student in kindergarten through grade five for each of the following writing genres: opinion, narrative, informative. For students in grades six through eight, a writing sample is required for each of the following writing genres: explanatory, narrative, argumentative. 
    • Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices is a computer-based assessment administered in January to all second graders. The purpose of the assessment is to identify Gifted students in second grade. 
    • Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices is a computer-based assessment administered in January to any GATE referred student in grades three through eight. The purpose of the assessment is to identify Gifted students in grades three through eight.
