Dear Oxnard School District Family,

The Oxnard School District is pleased to share that on August 19, 2026, the Board of Trustees officially approved a new name for the Cesar Chavez School: Juanita Academy of Literacy, Communication Arts and Technology.

The name change marks an exciting new chapter for the school and celebrates the strong connection between the school, its students, families, and community. Juanita honors the school’s history and the generations of families who have been part of its story. It reflects a sense of belonging, respect, connection, and pride, values that continue to shape the school community today.

The name selection process began in March and included input from students, families, staff, and community members through a survey and listening sessions. Over the following months, the Community Advisory Committee researched, discussed, and evaluated the suggested names, with an independent analysis also helping inform the process.

As this decision is finalized, we look forward to creating new memories, traditions, and milestones under a name that honors the deep roots and history of the Juanita community.

We extend our gratitude to all who participated in the process and helped shape this new direction. Your voices helped us identify a name that reflects the character, history, and future of the school.

Juanita Academy of Literacy, Communication Arts and Technology represents a strong foundation for the future, and we look forward to all that lies ahead. Please stay tuned as we are planning to celebrate the new name and share milestones in the process of updating our signage.
