Oxnard School District’s vision is to:

“Nurture self-confident and empowered multilingual global citizens, strong in their multiple identities and potential, who achieve inspired levels of individual, community, and social accomplishments in school and beyond their endeavors.”

Therefore, we must build strong partnerships with our culturally and ethnically diverse families to ensure all students achieve an excellent education. Oxnard School District acknowledges that families serve as their children's first network of support.

Oxnard School District is committed to creating opportunities for our families to engage in the decision-making processes at their schools and district level and empower them to advocate for their children.

We invite all families to engage at their school by not only attending parent-teacher conferences and other school events but by ensuring that their voices are included in the development of site initiatives, such as the School’s Parent and Family Engagement Policy. Families are also encouraged to become active in school-level parent committees such as the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), Parent Teacher Association (PTA), and School Site Council (SSC).

Families are also cordially invited to join district-level parent focus groups to help prioritize LCAP goals and how funding should be used to improve students’ academic achievement and socio-emotional well-being.

Currently, the Oxnard School District holds regular meetings with the following parent advisory groups:

  • The District’s English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC)

  • The Family and Community Engagement Advisory Group (FACE), composed of diverse district and community representatives

Additionally, Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings with OSD’s Superintendent, Dr. DeGenna, are held monthly.

OSD acknowledges and values the cultural assets of all families, striving to maintain positive partnerships with them to improve student educational outcomes.

If you would like to learn more about OSD’s family engagement initiatives or join our parent groups, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,
Dr. Teresa Ruvalcaba
