Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Screening

Students in grades three through eight may be referred for GATE assessment by a parent or guardian or by a teacher. Referred students are tested during the district's assessment window, and families are notified of the results by mail.

GATE Referral Process

Parent / Guardian Referrals

  1. Request a referral packet from your child's teacher, or pick up a copy from the front office.
  2. Complete the packet and return it to the teacher or office staff by .

Teacher Referrals

  1. Use the referral packet to recommend students in grades 3 through 8.
  2. Return the completed packet, including the signed parent permission form, to your school office manager by .

What Does Differentiation Mean?

Differentiation is most often not different curriculum content — it's adjusting how students engage with their grade-level standards. Teachers may differ any of the following:

  • Quality
  • Product choice
  • Time or pace
  • Assistance
  • Support
  • Goals
  • Resources
  • Difficulty
