Eliseo Tavira Charco

Born and raised in Corral Falso, Guerrero, Mexico, Eliseo Tavira Charco has worked as a Translator/Interpreter for the SPED Department at OSD since 2022. He holds a B.A. in Spanish, a Translation Certificate (English <> Spanish) from California State University Channel Islands, and a Spanish Language and Literature Certificate from Spain.
Before joining OSD, he worked as a Spanish tutor at CSUCI, a bilingual paraprofessional at Hueneme Elementary School District, and an After School Program Instructor for OSD.
Eliseo serves as the Special Education Translation and Interpretation Team Liaison under the supervision of the OSD Special Education Director. He is the point of contact for questions about translation and interpretation processes, while also training new staff and delegating high-profile document translation and interpretation assignments to translators and interpreters for IEP meetings and other related events.
He applies his skills and methodologies to bridge communication gaps with accurate, context-appropriate language, ensuring parents understand their child’s IEP meetings and documents while fostering inclusion and mutual understanding among students, parents, and school staff.
As an immigrant himself, Eliseo relates to the challenges of Oxnard’s hard-working families, making him approachable and relatable. He finds fulfillment in breaking language barriers and building meaningful connections in his community.
Outside of work, he enjoys quality time with his wife and son, often taking road trips together, and is currently learning Portuguese to further his passion for languages.
Arturo Batalla

Born in Barcelona, Spain, Arturo Batalla is a seasoned District Translator/Interpreter for the Special Education Department at the Oxnard School District.
He studied theatre in Berlin, where he lived for four years and graduated from a three-year Theatre Arts program from Inchicore Vocational College in Dublin, Ireland. He went on to work as a professional actor in Spain, Chile, and New York.
In 2006 he moved to New York where he started to work as a freelance translator and interpreter, working for the NY Transport Authority (MTA) in legal and medical cases. He has been working as a translator since then.
In 2013 he moved to Los Angeles where he freelanced as both a translator and TV editor. He has been working for the Oxnard School District since August 2024.
He loves to work with the community’s families, trying to be as helpful as possible in building linguistic bridges where they are needed. He is a proficient home cook and loves to travel and spend time with his family.
Sofia Camarena

Sofia Camarena is a first-generation college graduate, born and raised in Oxnard, CA. Sofia graduated from UCSB in 2021 with a B.A in Sociology and Spanish, with a minor in Educational Studies.
Before joining the Oxnard School District, Sofia worked as a Project Specialist for Interface Children & Family Services where she provided professional development trainings, in English and Spanish, for Early Childhood Educators and Domestic Violence Advocates.
Since joining the Special Education Department as a District Translator/Interpreter at the Oxnard School District, Sofia takes pride in helping bridge language barriers between English-only speaking staff and Spanish-only speaking parents.
Sofia believes that the greatest part about working for the OSD is that she can give back to the school district that she was fortunate enough to attend schools at.
Claudia Marcela Chavez

Claudia Marcela Chavez was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, where she completed a degree in International Business and Languages. At 24, she decided to move to the United States to work as an Au-Pair and improve her English.
After two years in the program, she went back to school and earned a bachelor’s degree from the Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU), majoring in Spanish with a Translation Certificate and minoring in Digital Media and Journalism. During her time at MSU Denver she engaged in several activities, including the student-run Spanish newscast.
After graduating with honors, she embarked on the news industry, accepting a role as a Digital and News Producer/Social Media Manager at Univision Colorado. In this role, she contributed to a wide range of events, such as breaking news, snowstorms, wildfires, local and presidential elections, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, she translated content for many of these events.
In 2021, Marcela joined NBC's KSEE24 in Fresno, California, as an anchor for their Spanish Digital Newscast. While there, she also contributed Spanish-language articles for the Noticias section of the station’s website.
Marcela has been working for Oxnard School District´s Special Education Translation/Interpretation team since 2024. Her understanding of the challenges immigrants face as well as her passion for languages drives her to explore and learn more of them such as Mandarin, Japanese and Korean. Her main goal is assisting non-English speakers overcome linguistic barriers.
Diana Huizar Amaro

Diana Huizar Amaro has been a committed and adept District Translator and Interpreter for the Oxnard School District (OSD) Special Education Department since September 2022. She was born in Ventura, California, but spent most of her childhood in Mexico. Proud of her heritage, she is the descendant of immigrant parents and is a first-generation college postgraduate.
She holds a Master of Education and Humanistic Studies (MIHE) and a B.A. in Foreign Languages in Translation from Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas (UAZ), where she also studied Latin and reached a B2 Level in French Certificate from Alliance Francaise. Ultimately, she received a scholarship from Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT) for her research.
Before OSD, she served as a teacher in private schools such as Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) and Instituto Educativo de Zacatecas (IEZ). She has taught English, French, and Literature at the Middle and High School levels.
Her expertise in the fields of Translation, Linguistics, and Education enables her to serve as a mediator, removing Spanish-English language barriers between parents and OSD staff during IEP meetings. Diana serves as the second-in-command for delegating meeting interpretations and translation assignments within the team.
Her most rewarding experience as part of the OSD family is witnessing the positive impact of her work, as parents can now actively participate in the development of their child's IEP and ensure they receive the Special Education services they need to succeed in life.
Apart from her passion for her job, Diana enjoys drawing, painting, playing musical instruments, and writing poetry and prose, and she is currently learning German to further develop her already comprehensive linguistic skills. Her ultimate dream is to contribute to a world where everyone is treated equally.
Alma Limon

Alma Limon is a native of Mexico City and brings over a decade of expertise in Child Development to her role as an Interpreter/Translator with the Oxnard School District since 2022.
As part of the Special Education Department’s Interpretation/Translation Team, she has provided various types of interpretation during IEPs, parent workshops, and school-site presentations, where she feels especially confident and successful using simultaneous interpretation. She is also highly skilled and experienced in translating medical terminology.
Her personal aspiration is to break language barriers and promote effective advocacy between parents and educational staff.
Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her family, working on pencil sketches, and learning new healthy recipes.
Claudia Perez

Claudia Perez is a first-generation Chilean born in Los Angeles and raised in England and Chile. She studied journalism at Universidad Andrés Bello in Santiago, Chile, but ultimately obtained her B.A. in Dramatic Arts (Playwriting) upon graduation from UCSB.
She later went on to pursue and obtain her Master’s in Legal Translation and Judicial Interpretation from Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. She has been a legal translator and interpreter for over 25 years, working at multinational law firms and a university legal research center in Chile and New York.
In 2013 she founded 3rd Floor Translations, a boutique legal translation agency. She has also translated and interpreted pro bono for various NGOs and held a therapeutic theater workshop at a government-funded home for socially-at-risk girls in Llo Lleo, Chile.
Claudia is proud to serve the Oxnard School District and its Spanish-speaking families, providing language justice and access to the community, and helping to establish bridges of communication between the extensive OSD staff and families.
Ana Sofia Rodriguez

Ana Sofia Rodriguez was born and raised in a small bicultural and bilingual desert town on the Southern Californian Mexican border. She is a second-generation interpreter/translator who is passionate about languages and connecting with her community. She has a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Spanish & Portuguese with a minor in Linguistics.
Before being a part of the Oxnard School District interpreting team in August 2024, she worked as a university language tutor for five years. She also worked as a Spanish Neuropsychological Assessor for a research team at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) who was conducting research on how bilingual children acquire language and how this process impacts reading acquisition. She also worked as a student research assistant at UCLA for three linguistic research studies, ranging from language acquisition to sound production.
She has also worked as a translator for the Koreatown Youth and Community Center´s Koreatown Storytelling Program, which is a digital media program that incorporates several storytelling techniques that strives to tell the intergenerational, multilingual, and multiethnic oral history of the immigrant population of Koreatown.
Outside of work, she loves to read, go on long walks, go to coffee shops, knit and go to the beach. She speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French and is looking for a fifth language to learn. She is proud of her Northern Mexican heritage and bilingual upbringing, and strives to be an effective interlingual and intercultural communicator in the OSD community.
