Pathway to Biliteracy Awards

The Oxnard School District proudly recognizes and celebrates fifth grade and eighth grade students who have demonstrated academic achievement in both Spanish and English and meet the criteria to be recognized with the Pathway Towards Biliteracy Award. In order for students to be eligible for the award, they must have met all of the following criteria:

5th Grade Students

  • Earned a classroom English Language Arts grade of standards “met” or higher
  • Achieved a grade level reading score on the STAR 360 English Reading Assessment
  • Achieved a grade level reading score on the STAR 360 Spanish Reading Assessment
  • Demonstrated written and oral proficiency by achieving a rubric score of “4” or higher on a grade level culminating project including a written report and an oral presentation.

8th Grade Students

  • Completed their English Language Arts Class with at least a “B” grade
  • Achieved a grade level score on the STAR 360 English Reading Assessment
  • Achieved a grade level score on the STAR 360 Spanish Reading Assessment
  • Demonstrated written and oral proficiency by achieving a rubric score of “4” or higher on a grade level culminating project including a written report and an oral presentation.
  • *If the primary language of a student is a language other than English, he/she must also meet the district’s reclassification criteria.

Each school schedules a virtual ceremony to recognize and celebrate the recipients of the award.  Students will be presented with a certificate, a t-shirt and ribbon.  The time and day for each ceremony is shared by each school.

The State Seal of Biliteracy, marked by a gold sea on the diploma transcript, recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing one or more languages in addition to English.
