Hi my name is KerryAnn Magner-Varela aka Mrs. KerryAnn to the students. I have been blessed with being the School Counselor at Thurgood Marshall K-8 for the last six years. I believe that we have the best students and staff in Oxnard, and I’m proud to be a Bulldog.
A little bit about me: I grew up in New Jersey and moved to California when I was 22 years old. As a child, I would dream about living in California, and I made it happen when I was old enough to move. I was the first in my family to attend college. I now live in Camarillo with my husband and stepson.
I have 20 years of experience working with children and developing programs in Ventura County for the health and mental health of children and families.
I am a Credentialed School Counselor and Professional Clinical Counselor with a Master’s Degree from California Lutheran University. I have advanced training in the following areas:
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
- Play Therapy
- Expressive Arts Therapy
- Trauma and Stress Reduction (Somatic Therapy)
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
- Restorative Circle Practice
- Grief Counseling
The services that I can provide to your children are brief-individual counseling, group social emotional counseling, crisis counseling, consultation with parents and teachers, classroom lessons, and restorative circles for conflict resolution.
If you would like to contact me directly, you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call
(805) 385-1557 and leave a message on the school voicemail.
If you have an emergency after school hours, please call 911 or contact these local agencies who can assist you.
