Curren Robotics
Our Curren Robotics Program consists of 4 FIRST LEGO League teams, 1 FIRST Tech Challenge team, and Curren Robotics Club.
Teams: The FIRST LEGO League teams are for grades 3 to 8 with the season lasting from July to December including 3 practices per week and a week summer camp in July. Team members design, build, and program an EV3 LEGO robot, research, write, and build an innovative project presentation, and create a Core Values presentation to be judged and presented during competitions. Older team members act as mentors for newer team members while teacher/parent coaches facilitate learning. The FIRST Tech Challenge team is advanced robotics for grades 7 and 8. The season is from November to March with daily practices. The FTC team designs, builds, programs, and operates robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. This team also creates an innovative project to present to judges. These teams are academic focusing on public speaking, researching, and writing skills as well as robot design, building, and programming in an environment that emphasizes the Core Values of cooperation, teamwork, innovation, and friendly competition.
Club: The Curren Robotics Club is throughout the school year. Club members learn to program, code, and design EV3 robots and Dash Wonderbots. Club members compete in a school wide competition and move on to the school district’s Wonderbot competition in May.
Important information: To participate in the Curren Robotics Program, team members are required to complete the Curren Robotics Commitment Statement and parents are required to complete volunteer hours including fundraising, help during practices and competitions, and provide transportation to the competition. The school district requires finder printing, so parents will need to make an appointment with the school district office for fingerprinting as soon as your child considers participating in the Curren Robotics Program.
