Mrs. Rachel Sutherland

Teaching is my dream job, so that may explain why I've been here at Chavez School for 20 years! I love our community and can't imagine being any where else. When I'm not teaching, I am spending time with my family and having adventures with my son, Kai, and my daughter, Laini. Or, you might find me riding my horse Ranger or running with my dog Ella. My passion in life is providing our beautiful children with the best education money can buy, motivating them to dream big and take the little steps necessary to get there, and being a caring pressence in our students' lives.

The books listed on this page are my favorite books of all time!

  • The Hiding Place

by Corrie Ten Boom Year Published: 1971

A Christian family in the Netherlands hides Jewish people in their home during WWII. The whole family pays for this with their lives by being sent to Nazi concentration camps, except for the author, Corrie. This book is all about love and forgiveness. Things our world needs more of!

by James Herriott Year Published: 1972

An English country vet travels around the Yorkshire dales (hilsides!) treating sick animals and writing about the funny people he meets. AMAZING!

  • The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

    by C. S. Lewis Year Published: 1950

So good! My sister and I read this fantasy aloud to each other the summer after 4th grade. This book changed my life.
