Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2023–2024 school year! I hope you all had a wonderful summer. Our McKinna teachers and staff are looking forward to another successful school year with our students. Our priority continues to be the safety and academic success of all of our students. As such, our commitment is to provide a safe learning environment for all of our students, one where they feel valued, respected and motivated to learn. You are all integral partners in the success of our students and we look forward to working with you every step of the way.
This year the DLI program will be implemented in all grades TK-5th, which means students in these grades will receive instruction in both English and Spanish daily in a 50/50 DLI model. Our students in Tk and K will have a full day and will dismiss at 2:25 p.m. Additionally, we have added 5 minutes to our instructional day for our students in 1st-5th grade which means students will be dismissed later than last year. We will also continue to have an early dismissal every Wednesday, starting the second week of school. This will allow our teachers to plan stronger lessons for the success of our students.
New Dismissal Times:
- TK/Kinder instruction begins at 8:10 a.m. and dismissal is at 2:25 p.m.
- TK/Kinder Wednesday dismissal starting on 8-23-23 will be at 12:25 p.m.
- For grades 1-5 instruction begins at 8:10 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m.
- Grades 1-5 Wednesday dismissal starting on 8-23-23 will be at 1:25 p.m.
We want our start of the year to be a successful one and ask you make sure students are not being dropped off at school before 7:40 a.m. as supervision does not begin until then. Our parking lot will remain closed at dismissal to ensure the safety of our students. We ask you park on the side streets and walk up to the front of the school to pick up your child. Also, our back-parking lot has plenty of parking spaces. Additionally, remember to update all information on your emergency cards as it is important we have the correct information to contact you. Don’t forget to inform our office staff, any time changes to your address or phone number are made, throughout the school year. We also want to remind you, we will NOT release children to anyone not on the emergency card. Remember bring your ID at all times, when picking up children. These measures ensure the safety of our students.
I am here to support your child and you in any way possible and look forward to meeting each and every one of you. We have an exciting year ahead of us!Sincerely,
Erika Ragan, Principal McKinna Elementary
