Parent Teacher Conferences, Report Cards and More! |
|
by Dr. Ana DeGenna, Interim Superintendent
With November already upon us, the first trimester of school is coming to a close. Parent Teacher Conferences will take place November 14 - 17, except for Frank and Fremont schools (held earlier in October).
Conference days are minimum days (for students) so parents can meet with their child's teachers to review academic progress toward the standards set by the state of California. Oxnard School District uses Standards-Based Report Cards for students in TK-5 and a traditional letter based report card for students in grades 6 - 8.
Standard-Based Report Cards, for TK - 5, reflect student achievement toward the standards set by the state of California. If you would like to learn more about Standards-Based Report Cards as a measure of achievement, there is a helpful YouTube video available on our website in English and in Spanish.
Before receiving your student's report card, you will have the opportunity to meet with your child's teachers at fall conferences. As you get ready for your Parent / Teacher Conference, take the opportunity to understand your child's strengths and areas for improvement, ask questions and set goals with your child's teacher. Parents and teachers create a powerful "support team" when there is open communication and an understanding of the shared goal of student success.

You can reach out to your child's teacher via ParentSquare, our new communication platform for the entire district. Accessible right from your phone or computer, the app will allow you to email your student's teacher, schedule conference times and discuss your student's needs.
We look forward to meeting with you soon at the upcoming conferences and appreciate your partnership in your student's academic success! |

Celebrating the Rich Traditions of Indigenous Peoples |
|
|
by Teresa Ruvalcaba Manager of Equity, Family & Community Engagement
Oxnard School District is working to increase opportunities for families to engage with our school community. In October, we came together as a community to honor our Mixteco community and Indigenous Peoples' Day.
Here are some highlights of our celebrations that recognize the rich cultural heritage of our Oxnard families. On Tuesday, October 10th, OSD hosted a Mixteco Family Reading Night (via Zoom) with all interested Oxnard families. This was a continuation of our efforts last year when we launched the Mixteco book series. |

On Thursday, October 12th, we hosted a Meet & Greet event for Native American families in our district. Guest speakers -- Cherie Calles (Assist. Principal) ad Pam Cwiklo (Retired Administrator) -- shared information about the Indian Education program and resources available to our families.
We encourage you to engage with your children in discussions about the significance of Indigenous Peoples' Day and the importance of respecting and appreciating different cultures. Our goal is to create a learning environment that promotes inclusiveness and understanding.
